37 student-athletes earn fall Academic All-OAC honors

On Tuesday morning, the Ohio Athletic Conference announced the Fall, 2019 Academic All-OAC selections. Included on that list were the names of 37 student-athletes from Heidelberg University. 

To be eligible for Academic All-OAC status, a student must be of sophomore class standing or higher, maintain varsity status, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50.

Of the 37 students recognized, 14 belonged to the women's soccer program, seven to volleyball, seven to football, six to men's soccer, two to men's cross country, and one to women's cross country. 

For the women's soccer program, seniors Erica Campbell, Anna Chalkley, Madison Crow, Kate Mundy, McKenzie Perry and Amanda Sugrue, junior Madison Zimmerman, and sophomores Hailey Taylor, Maddie Deiderick, Sophia Jackson, Courtney Moggio, Alessandra Piazza, Sydney Shaffer, and Macy Zachary all earned selection. Campbell, Perry, and Sugrue all claimed the award for the third time in their careers, while Crow, Mundy and Zimmerman were all selected for a second time. The other seven were recognized for the first time in their careers. 

For volleyball, senior Mya Morris, juniors Alyssa Edmond and Peyton Miller, and sophomores Alexis Calhoun, Amy Feczer, Sarah Oney, and Maddie Szawranskyj accomplished the feat. For Morris, Edmond, and Miller, this is the second time they've taken home the Academic All-OAC distinction. For the four sophomores, this is their first such award.

Football saw the selections of senior Gabe Smythe, juniors Jacob Rigsby, Jacob Rings, Jayden Stanton and Nick Cofer, and sophomores Cole Geiser and Trevor HarrisonRawn. Smythe, Rigsby, Rings, Stanton and Cofer have all received the honor each year of their eligibility, while Geiser and HarrisonRawn are first-time winners.

Men's soccer was represented by juniors John Gall and Jarod Chavez, and sophomores Riley Bartels, Sigurd Ilestad, Ryan Newman, and Spencer Tredwell. Of the six, Gall is the only repeat selection.

For men's cross country, junior Logan Kittaka repeated, and sophomore Mitchell Luken earned his first recognition. 

On the women's cross country team, just junior Lauren Mussig was honored with the distinction. The honor is Mussig's first. 

The 37 fall selections is the most for Heidelberg since the 2016 fall season, when 37 were also selected.
