Aim HEI videos offer advice for future freshmen

The first semester for new students can be daunting. Lots of new challenges ahead, a new home away from home, new friends, classmates and professors. But thankfully, there are numerous resources in place at Heidelberg to ensure students succeed from day one. One such resource is Aim HEI. Freshman Brianna Clark can attest to the value of Aim HEI.

To conclude the semester, all Aim HEI students were tasked with a final reflection project in which they reviewed lessons learned through their first full semester.

Political science professor Dr. Marc O’Reilly – who led Bri’s Aim HEI group – asked his students to reflect on advice they would give to their freshman selves. Some composed PowerPoint presentations. Others produced creative videos or took to TikTok or Instagram to create their reflections. Bri chose an animated video.

“Some of the videos were really engaging and fun, and that’s right in Bri’s wheelhouse,” said Marc. “All of the videos had a unique style they brought to the project.”

As a theatre major, Bri jumped at the opportunity to harness her creativity and utilize her art skills. “The message I wanted to convey was how, even though it was stressful, I have had a wonderful first semester here at Heidelberg,” she says.

She took advice to heart to get engaged in opportunities within her major and has enjoyed meeting diverse people, Bri says.

We don’t want to give away all of Bri’s advise for future freshmen. You’ll just have to watch her video.
