MAC students attend inaugural Human Trafficking Summit

Four MAC students -- Savannah Long, Alyna Lewis, Alexis Flores and Kaitlyn Bilsing -- were awarded scholarships to attend the inaugural Ohio Human Trafficking Summit on January 9. Dr. DoHee Kim-Appel, MAC faculty, accompanied them.

The HTS was one of the Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost’s initiatives, and the mission states “To end labor and sex trafficking in the state by building awareness, empowering Ohioans to take action in their communities, helping victims, and ensuring that traffickers and johns are brought to justices.”

Human trafficking Initiatives emphasize the importance of a multidisciplinary team approach to solving the problem. Attendees at the summit were survivors, legal system representatives, social works, professional counselors, and representatives from various treatment centers throughout Ohio.
