Faculty Pursuits: Week of Feb. 10, 2020

From January 26-February 1, Dr. Cindy Lepeley (Spanish) provided pro bono interpreting services for immigration attorneys working with Central American asylum seekers at the immigration detention center for women and children in Dilley, Texas. The volunteer group from Ohio included six attorneys, a law student and one other interpreter. The group worked all week with the Dilley Pro Bono Project to prepare the women for their credible fear interview, which is the first step in the process of seeking asylum. Another of their tasks was to prepare the women to appear before an immigration judge to appeal negative credible fear interview results.
