Jazzin' things up with Cabaret Night

While the idea of the jazz cabaret dates back more than 100 years, the School of Music & Theatre will put a contemporary spin on the tradition on Saturday, April 9. You are invited to Blues in the Night: An Evening of Blues & Pop Cabaret, featuring the sweet sounds of the Heidelberg Jazz Band, under the direction of Dr. John Owen, and the Singing Collegians, under the direction of Dr. Daniel Clark.

Members of the Jazz Ensemble will also provide vocals on such numbers as Messin’ with the Kid, Ain’t No Sunshine, Everybody Needs Somebody, Hound Dog and Night Train. Soloists include ‘Berg students Chelsea Smith, Robin Coffelt, Nick Saxton, Kristina Kamm, Alexander Mains and Howard Cole. John also will provide vocal solos for two pieces in the Jazz Ensemble’s repertoire.

Blues in the Night begins at 7 p.m. in Wickham Great Hall. To make the evening complete, cabaret-goers can enjoy a dessert buffet, a candy buffet and a cash bar.
