'Berg students to 'check in' on mental health, wellness

With less than a month to go before final exams and the close of the school year, the Office of Student Engagement and the Stoner Health & Counseling Center are preparing to transform the Campus Center law into an carnival-like setting that will give students an opportunity to assess their mental health and wellness in a fun, interactive, stress-free environment.

Fresh Check Day – a mental health awareness concept created by The Jordan Porco Foundation – is designed to bring the campus community together to “check in” on the mental health and wellness of students, according to Jacqueline Sironen. Additional campus departments, student volunteers and representatives from The Jordan Porco Foundation will collaborate for Fresh Check Day, which is scheduled for 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, April 19.

The event also will feature 10 interactive exhibits hosted by a variety of student organizations, including the women's soccer team, Berg Events Council, Greek groups, Student Senate and URGE. Food, music, prizes and giveaways will be available, as will be splash therapy, #BreakTheSilence and soccer bowling. A food trucks from Jolly's and Aramark (build your own burrito) will cater the event.

About 50 students have volunteered to help staff the booths. Rain location is Seiberling Gymnasium.
