Message of support for the University of Heidelberg, AJY program

This statement was jointly issued by Heidelberg University (USA) President Robert H. Huntington and Martin Kley, Resident Director of the American Junior Year Program at the University of Heidelberg (Germany) following the horrific shooting on the German university's campus earlier today.

Dear Heidelberg Community,

We are shocked and deeply saddened by today’s campus shooting at the University of Heidelberg in Germany that claimed a student’s life and injured several others as they attended a science lecture. As police continue their investigation into this tragic event, there is no longer a threat on the campus. The lone shooter died in the incident.

At this time, although we are distraught, we are grateful that everyone at the University of Heidelberg is confirmed safe.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the victims, their families and friends, and all students, professors, and staff at the University of Heidelberg. Our campus community, AJY staff in Heidelberg, and the many alumni who have studied at the University of Heidelberg through the AJY program stand in solidarity with our friends in Heidelberg during this difficult time.
