PURSUITS: Week of May 9, 2016

Dr. Rem Confesor (NCWQR) is a co-PI and the lead technical scientist of the newly funded project Motivating Farmers to Move the Needle on Nutrient and Sediment Loss Reduction with Model-at-the-Farm, Measure-at-the-Watershed Pay-for-Performance Conservation, led by Winrock International and funded by the U.S. EPA through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI). This is a three-year project with a total funding of $500,000 and the project location is the Old Woman Creek watershed, Ohio. The project's anticipated outcome includes: 1) Increased farmer understanding of nutrient and sediment loss, their impacts on water quality and cost-effective ways to reduce losses, 2) Widespread adoption of effective and cost-effective conservation actions across the watershed, 3) Demonstration of  watershed-level response to dramatic increase in conservation practices, and ultimately, 4)  a reduction in the frequency of harmful algal blooms (HABs) in Lake Erie after the successful replication of this innovative approach in 15 watersheds in the Lake Erie Basin.

Brandi Oswald and Jaime Graham (front, L-R) assisted Dr. Dave Bush at the display, as did a re-enactor (top left).

Dr. David Bush (anthropology) organized and managed the exhibit tables on Johnson's Island for the Mansfield Ohio Civil War Show held April 29-May 1. Helping Dave were 'Berg anthropology alumni Jaime Graham and Brandi Oswald. The exhibit focused on the preservation of cultural materials.
