Student's poetry honored in literary contest

Huge congratulations to senior English and philosophy major Chayenne Powers, who earned recognition in this year’s Echo Student Literary Competition.

The competition, open to all students in all majors, is hosted by Hiram College’s Lindsay-Crane Center for Writing and Literature. It’s open to undergrads from Bethany, Heidelberg, Hiram, Marietta, Mount Union and Muskingum.

Chayenne’s three original compositions -- “olive,” “I wanted to ask” and “Salvation” -- received third place in the Poetry category. Student works are submitted in poetry, short fiction and creative nonfiction. The contests offer cash prizes and the opportunity for students to have their work judged by professional writers. An added benefit gives students the opportunity to learn the process for submitting their work via the same system that most professional contests and journals use.

Entries are judged by faculty members from the six participating colleges and institutions. All of the winning entries are being published in the Echo Literary Anthology.
