Speech Team wins at Otterbein University

Heidelberg's Speech Team had their first outing of the competition season on October 8 when they travelled to Otterbein University to face off against 10 other teams from Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia and Michigan. Bringing home honors for the Berg were sophomore Alexis Kirkendall and juniors Julia Schaefer and Kelsey Stanfield.

Alexis placed fourth in Novice Informative Speaking with her original presentation on Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Julia secured second place in Dramatic Interpretation with a cutting from Dragon Wings by Dame Wilburn. And Kelsey earned fourth place in Varsity Persuasive Speaking with her original work challenging audiences to overcome what is known as the bystander effect.

Coach Dan Higgins noted, "It was great to be competing in person once again. Our students have been working very hard to be prepared for a tournament this early in the school year and their efforts definitely paid off."
