Giving Tuesday special for 'Berg president, Sisters in Shelter

Giving Tuesday (Nov. 29) brought special meaning and a special opportunity for ‘Berg President Rob Huntington.

As part of the Giving Tuesday tradition, the Tiffin Community Foundation (founded 1983) – for which Rob has served as a board member since 2013 – designated its giving to nine local organizations as chosen by the nine board members. The gesture was in recognition and honor of the board’s significant commitment to the Tiffin community.

Rob chose Sisters in Shelter (SIS), a local organization founded in 2005 that is near and dear to Heidelberg’s heart. Sisters in Shelter provides education and awareness about human trafficking to first responders and the general public. SIS also provides the critical first needs for women survivors of human trafficking: emergency safe housing, medical care, safety planning and legal advocacy.

“In addition to hosting Human Trafficking Awareness Week events in previous years, our students have volunteered or taken internships at Sisters in Shelter,” Rob said. “Most recently,  I was inspired and impressed by the work of Leah Cordy, ’20, MBA ’21, and Emma Baughman, ’22, at this important organization.”

On Tuesday, Rob was honored to host Jodie Reinbolt, Executive Director of the Tiffin Community Foundation, along with Sisters in Shelter Director Sister Mary Kuhlman and Administrative Assistant Judy Hoffman. They gathered at the Heidelberg “H” sculpture in the center of the campus, where Jodie presented Sister Mary and Judy with the Foundation's Giving Tuesday $1,000 grant.
