Faculty Pursuits: Week of Oct. 19, 2026

Dr. Justin Pruneski (Biology) published a science education research article, "Using ASM’s Meet the Microbiologist Podcast to Expose Students to Current Research, the Diversity of the Field of Microbiology, and Professional Development," in the Journal of Microbiology and Biology Education (JMBE). The project was funded by an Aigler Faculty Research Grant.

Cross-department collaboration in action! Heidelberg Theatre and Admissions teamed up for high-impact recruitment over fall break. Karla Kash (Theatre) and Alexa Lowery (Admissions, Theatre) attended the nationwide Pittsburgh Unified Auditions alongside 84 other institutions.

Here is a look at the numbers:

• Live Auditions: 300+ students seen
• 130 prospective leads
• Virtual Auditions: 250+ students remaining
• 100+ prospective leads

Their outreach is already paying off. After identifying a prospective student interested in joining Heidelberg's track team, Karla and Lex looped in Head Track Coach Jason Hudson. Following a successful Zoom connection, the student is now planning an official campus visit!
