Heidelberg alumna Kelsey Stanfield continues her academic journey with a TEDx presentation and a recent publication

Kelsey Stanfield ’24, with Heidelberg Professors at her TEDx presentation

Kelsey Stanfield ’24 recently presented her research at a TEDx Bowling Green State University 2026 event on March 19, 2026.

Her presentation, titled “Defining the Terms and Conditions: Resisting Data Colonialism,” focused on how data is used and the impact it can have on people and communities.

Kelsey is currently completing her master’s degree in Communication and Media at Bowling Green State University and recently defended her thesis.
Several Heidelberg faculty members attended the event to support her, including Barry Devine, Robin Heaton, Julie O’Reilly, and former faculty member Heleana Theixos.

Kelsey’s work has also been recognized beyond the classroom. She was featured on the February 24 episode of the “Office Hours with Dr. C” podcast, where she discussed her research and academic experience.

In addition to her presentation and thesis work, Kelsey is gaining experience in academic publishing. As an editorial assistant for Women's Studies in Communication, she recently published a reflective article about her role and growth as a writer and scholar.

In the article, Kelsey shares how the experience helped her better understand the importance of editing and collaboration in academic work. She explains that editing is not just about fixing grammar, but about helping strengthen ideas and support other voices.

Her work with the journal also allowed her to engage more deeply with research and build confidence in her own perspective as a scholar.

Kelsey’s continued success highlights how Heidelberg students carry what they learn into graduate programs, research, and professional work. Her experience shows both academic growth and a strong commitment to learning beyond the classroom.
