Fossils to football: HU roars Into ‘Jurassic Berg’ Homecoming

Homecoming is approaching, and Heidelberg University is preparing to welcome back alumni with a big roar. Join us for a fun-filled weekend Oct. 3-5 around the theme Jurassic Berg.

Throughout the week, ’Berg students will engage in various Jurassic Berg-themed activities organized by the Berg Events Council, leading up to the festivities on Friday and Saturday, when alumni will join the fun.

Homecoming Weekend kicks off Friday with the official grand opening dedication and ribbon-cutting of Heidelberg’s new Athletics, Academic, and Recreation Center (Fieldhouse) at 2 p.m. The community is invited to the ceremony. The Seneca County Collaborative will participate as well.

Also on Friday night, Heidelberg’s Greek community will present its annual Greek Sing 2025 event, showcasing the traditions and talents of each of the 10 Greek societies.

Alumni will descend on Heidelberg’s campus en masse on Saturday. They’ll have an opportunity for guided tours of the new Fieldhouse, followed by a new event, Heidelberg Hugs at the H, celebrating alumni couples who met or found their significant other through their shared Heidelberg experience. Hugs at the H will be followed by the traditional Homecoming Parade down Greenfield Street at 11 a.m. Alumni who participated in Greek life while they were students will be welcomed back to Greek Village, adjacent to the Saurwein Health & Wellness Center and Hoernemann Stadium.

Additionally, the Office of Alumni Engagement will host a series of family-friendly activities, such as a Dinosaur Egg Hunt and decorating Safari Hats, and Dinosaur Fun Photos, from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at Saurwein Health & Wellness Center, which will also serve as Homecoming Central.

There will be plenty of athletic competition for alumni to enjoy, including Men’s Soccer vs. Wilmington at 1 p.m. at Hidden Valley and Football vs. Capital at 1:30 p.m. at Hoernemann Stadium.

The Alumni Band members will join current Marching Band members for a rousing halftime performance.
Heidelberg will crown its Homecoming royalty at halftime as well.

Homecoming Weekend concludes Sunday with the fall meeting of the Alumni Council and the School of Music & Theatre Gala at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 131 E. Perry St. The gala will feature the presentation of this year’s Berg Bravo! Distinguished Career Awards.
