Holiday movies is theme for SMT's 'Miracle on Market Street'

The School of Music & Theatre will present its annual Christmas concert this year with a seasonal staple: holiday movies. Come share moments from holiday classics such as It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, Charlie Brown Christmas and even Home Alone.

Miracle on Market Street: A Heidelberg Christmas will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at the Ritz Theatre in downtown Tiffin.

In addition to the holiday classics, Heidelberg has maintained a tradition of presenting portions of G.F. Handel’s Messiah during the concert for more than 100 years. This year, the School of Music & Theatre will also include three selections from Messiah: Rejoice Greatly with soprano soloist Carol Dusdieker, director of the School of Music & Theatre, Glory to God and the stirring Hallelujah Chorus.

The program will close with Let There Be Peace on Earth, as all performers join together to celebrate the true meaning of this season.

Performing ensembles include the Heidelberg Concert Choir, the Marching Band, the HeiNotes Show Choir, The Jazz Ensemble, the University-Community Chorus, the Heimonics a cappella group, and children from the Community Music School.

“The School of Music and Theatre is thrilled to return in-person to the Ritz for this event,” Carol said. “We are polishing off our sleigh bells, brushing up on our Christmas carols and we’re ready to share the holiday spirit with our family, friends and community. Our movie montage aims to connect with audience members of all ages, revisiting the themes (spirit) of this season, along with a chuckle or two.”

Students can attend the holiday concert for free by bringing their ID to Pat Page in Brenneman by Dec. 9. Tickets for faculty, staff and Berg Bravo! members are $5 with your ID and can be purchased at Brenneman at the Ritz Theatre box office. General admission tickets are $10 and can be purchased through the Ritz box office at (419) 448-8544 or by visiting ritztheatre.org.

In keeping with Heidelberg University’s COVID-19 protocols, masks will be required at this performance.
