Wetlands class offers solution to pond issues

At the end of fall term, Dr. Doug Kane's Wetlands class, Watershed Science 305, presented a Pond Wetland Restoration and Management Plan to faculty and staff at Heidelberg University. This term-long project had students come up with recommendations on how to address the problems with the Common Reed (Phragmites australis), which is invasive to the pond, located next to Saurwein Health & Wellness Center. Faculty from the Biology and Environmental Science and staff from Facilities attended the presentation. The recommendations from the class are currently being implemented to help reduce the Phragmites population in the wetland.
