Humanities Symposium a huge success

The first-ever Pfleiderer Humanities Symposium proved gratifying not only for the student presenters and organizers but for faculty members as well.

Wednesday and Thursday, several departments in Pfleiderer collaborated on the symposium, which allowed students to showcase the current research and work they are doing in upper-level courses. Students in English 290 organized and planned the event.

In all, 25 students presented their work, including: Bethany Beaver, Arianna Adams, Rachel Redolf, Sarah Heindel, Jordan Busch, Anna Freidin, Seth Owings, Tanner Fisher, Summer Hunter-Kysor, Ethan Miller, Deborah Fultz, Michele Porter, Sarah Miller, Rebekah Schwab, Matthew Fee, Rachel Peters, Justin Varney, Evan Englehart, Anika Maiberger, Kate Rose, Jocelyn Schartiger, Morgan Brant, Chelsea Jones, Hannah Taulbee and Mikayla Gray.

English Professor Dr. Bill Reyer called the symposium “among the most gratifying of my faculty-student interactions of the Fall 2016 term.”

Bill and others felt the presentations were thoughtful, articulate and enriching.

“To have the sophomore students create an environment of scholarship, camaraderie and outreach for their elder scholars was very moving for me – a veteran professor of 35 years,” he said.

Congratulations go to faculty members Dr. Doug Collar, Dr. Courtney DeMayo, Dr. Blake Grangaard, Dr. Emily Isaacson and Dr. David Kimmel for working with their upperclass students on their projects.
