Heidelberg University Concert Choir Fall Concert
You are cordially invited to join the Heidelberg University Concert Choir and Chamber Singers for our fall concert.
Thoughts from the director:
Throughout my life, music has granted me incredible opportunities to see the nation and the world. The summer after my freshman year of college, I joined 45 singers on a six-week choir tour. Starting in northwest Ohio, our path wound south and west to the Pacific Ocean, turned north to the Pacific Northwest, and meandered sinuously back home. That single journey carried us across more than twenty states, allowing me to be immersed in the rich beauty and culture of the American landscape. More recently, my wife and I joined the Heidelberg University Concert Choir on international tours through Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Germany. These travels have shown me the full spectrum of human connection. I have felt the exhilarating joy of sharing deep truths with audiences who speak a completely different language, just as I have felt the profound loneliness of being thousands of miles from home.
Today, we embark on a musical journey through that same shared human experience. Our program spans the sacred wonder of existence, the breathtaking immensity of the cosmos, and our fundamental longing to know and be known. Together, we will examine our calling toward community and awaken our resolve to become active agents of grace. We will celebrate the radical beauty of kindness, mourn our all-too-common impulse to divide and marginalize, and turn to the quiet sanctuary of nature and love to heal what has been damaged.
Drawing strength from both heaven and earth, we reaffirm our commitment to a healing process that begins within our own hearts before rippling outward. Across every border and continent, we are bound together in oneness. We are not so different from the billions with whom we share this planet, and today, we raise our voices to sing out our love for this beautiful, broken world—and our unyielding hope for its restoration.
