The Owen Center for Teaching and Learning serves the Heidelberg community by promoting best practices in faculty teaching and student learning, empowering faculty, students, and staff to achieve success. The OCTL provides wrap-around teaching and learning support for all students and faculty so that all support services integrate seamlessly into a comprehensive network of student support.

The Owen CTL maintains up-to-date resources for all students in Canvas. At the start of each semester, all Heidelberg students are added to the Academic Support Canvas Course that contains current academic support schedules, Beeghly Library information, academic advising resources, information about accessibility services, and information about study abroad programs

The Owen Center for Teaching and Learning also maintains up-to-date resources for all faculty in Canvas. At the start of each semester, all Heidelberg instructors (full-time and part-time) are added to the Owen Center for Teaching and Learning Canvas course. The Owen Center for Teaching and Learning Canvas Course contains resources specifically for faculty, including resources to support in-person, hybrid, and online pedagogy; tutorials and how-to guides for utilizing campus technology such as Oasis, Guardian, Canvas, BNC’s textbook adoption portal, and IDEA student surveys; institutional resources such as the syllabus template and academic honesty policy; and resources to support academic advising and accessible teaching.

The Owen Center for Teaching and Learning also administers Academic Alerts. Any member of the faculty or staff who has concerns about a student’s academic performance should submit an Academic Alert by filling out an Incident Communication Form and selecting “Academic Alert” from the dropdown menu. Faculty and staff should report any student who is struggling academically, missing classes, or otherwise behaving inappropriately.
