Concert Choir Home Concert

Please note: Effective at 5 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2020, the Heidelberg University campus will be closed for the rest of the semester in response to the ever-growing COVID-19 pandemic. All events on campus for the Spring 2020 semester have been suspended or canceled.

Join us for the Concert Choir's annual home concert.

For the past two years, the themes that generated the Heidelberg University Concert Choir’s repertoire were deliberately related to travel: Come Travel With Me and Oh, the Places You’ll Go! This year, we will complete a three-year cycle with the theme Homeward (Un)bound. In order to explore the homeward portion of the theme, all of this year’s repertoire consists either of pieces written by American composers or settings of American poetry, and much of the repertoire features compositions and poetry by underrepresented populations. The unbound aspect of the theme relates to the recurring concept of freedom that is explored in the lyrics: freedom from oppression, freedom to pursue peace, freedom to forgive, freedom to enjoy leisure, freedom to give and receive love, freedom to cherish memories of loved ones, freedom to make the world a better place. Despite being drawn from distinctive and varied perspectives, the texts of the selections speak of universal ideas: faith and fellowship, love and loss. Over the course of our program, we sincerely hope that our audiences will be moved by the symbiotic relationship between poetry and music, and that the cumulative associations of each piece will evoke ever-developing images regarding the essence of life itself.

The concert is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be received.
