Puppetry Workshop
Come join the School of Music & Theatre's puppetry workshop! Saturday September 23rd 9:00-4:00.
You will learn a simple story formula to start and strengthen your storytelling skills in puppetry. You will also learn about the history of Bunraku and how puppetry exists in the art world today. Join Master Storyteller and Puppeteer Charles Nasby who will have you using sustainable materials within your home or classroom and making props and puppets to tell your story. Join us for this fun workshop that encourages the use of discarded and repurposed materials with heaps of imagination.

10:30 a.m.-12: p.m. -- Session Two: Embodying the Puppets: Build, Movement and Manipulation
12-1 p.m. -- LUNCH ($15, Free for Heidelberg students with meal plan)
1 p.m. -- Puppets with a Purpose: Giving Voice to Our Creations
Build teams of (3) to explore themes/construct a narrative

About the Presenter
Charles A. Nasby is the Theatre Department Coordinator/Technical Director for the Theatre and Music programs at the Paul W. Ogle Cultural and Community Center at Indiana University Southeast. He received his BFA in design and production, and his Master's of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies: Concentration in Sustainability.
Charles has worked as a set designer, technical director, production designer, lighting/projection designer, sound designer, prop designer, director, puppeteer, and as an actor for numerous productions across the globe: Kentucky Shakespeare, Stage One Family Theatre, Bunbury Theatre, The Liminal Playhouse, Beijing Foreign Studies University- China, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts- Singapore, São Paulo State University (UNESP) - Brazil, Gaston Berger University-St. Louis, Senegal.
Charles is also the creator of Nstages/Rymes4AReason, a sustainable theatre initiative that has manifested from years of learning, designing/building, and teaching in and outside the theatre. The goal of Nstages/Rhymes4AReason is to restore, re-establish, and/or change spaces into art/culture/museums/ theatrical performance spaces.
Whether it is designing or performing, through his sustainable theatre initiative, and international cultural exchange, public and political transformation can occur. With community engagement and the participation of volunteers, positive change will become contagious once this universal collaboration is witnessed and the goals are achieved.
