Spring Esports Meeting
Do you like competitive gaming? Have you wondered what it might be like to have a dedicated group of friends/teammates to play with? Would you like to have the opportunity to play competitively to represent Heidelberg University and rock some cool gamer swag? Or would you be interested in gaining experience with game commentary, running a livestream, crafting social media posts, working on video editing and/or photography skills?
If you've answered 'yes' to any of those questions, then Heidelberg Esports may be for you!
Are you already a part of an athletics team, or are unsure if your schedule will allow you the time to join the esports program? Are you worried that you might not be good enough, or have a high enough rank in order to compete?
If you answered 'yes' to either of those questions, then I'm here to tell you you're wrong! We work with dual sport athletes and others with busy schedules all the time in order to allow them the opportunity to compete in esports. And we accept all students, regardless of rank or past competitive experience.
So what are the games we offer? And if the game I play doesn't currently have a team, or is primarily a solo game, could I still compete?
Currently, we have teams that compete in Rocket League, Overwatch 2, Valorant, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Call of Duty Black Ops 7, Marvel Rivals and Splatoon 3. And yes, if your preferred game title doesn't currently have a team, the potential to form one is available, as long as there's enough interest. Other titles that we CAN have teams for but don't currently include: Mario Kart World, Fortnite, Apex Legends, League of Legends & Rainbow Six Siege. Other solo titles you can compete in include: Madden NFL, College Football, NBA 2K, MLB The Show, EA Sports FC, Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Guilty Gear Strive, 2XKO & Teamfight Tactics.
If you have other questions regarding the Heidelberg Esports program and/or are looking to get signed up for the spring season, I encourage you to attend our Spring Meeting! And if you can't make it, but would like to find out more info, please feel free to send us an email at esports@heidelberg.edu
