Cards and Crochet
The Center for Survivor Empowerment is teaming up with Pan Yan Bookstore and First Step to show you how to crochet! As many know, art is a powerful form of healing for survivors of violence against women because it offers what traditional language often cannot: a safe, expressive space to process experiences that may feel too overwhelming, too complex, or too painful to put into words. Trauma lives in the body as much as in the mind, and creative work gives survivors a gentle way to reconnect with themselves without having to relive their story out loud.
Penelope Logsdon, Heidelberg and Phi alumni, will be showing us how to crochet our own hats, and other small crochet items. All items will be provided for you, and you can take home any project you've worked on. If you're not too excited about crochet, we ask that you come and make a card for victims of human trafficking, stalking, or domestic violence for Human Trafficking and Stalking Awareness Month. Marrisa Orzechowski will be there from First Step to take the cards back to the shelter residents.
We can't wait to see you there!
