Seneca County Museum Lecture: John Quinn by Dr. Barry Devine
The Seneca County Museum will welcome ‘Berg English professor Dr. Barry Devine as the keynote speaker for a presentation on John Quinn, an influential but little known Tiffinite.
Born in Tiffin in 1871, Quinn had a disappointing career in New York’s Tammany Hall politics after earning two law degrees and opening a practice in New York City. Quinn worked with some of the most famous figures of the early 20th century, including writers such as T.S. Eliot and artists such as Pablo Picasso. Quinn collected more than 2,000 rare books and manuscripts from writers such as James Joyce, Joseph Conrad and Matthew Arnold, and said his legacy is widely recognized in the fields of modern art, rare manuscripts and publishing history.
Learn how Quinn went from his father’s Tiffin bakery to become one of the most influential, yet invisible, figures of the 20th century.
