John Quinn Lecture Series - Censorship and Banned Books
Tiffin native John Quinn fought against censorship for much of his professional career. He was caught in a constant battle between the avant-garde writers of the early 1920s and the laws he knew he would be hopeless to defend against. Writers like Wyndham Lewis, T. S. Eliot, and James Joyce pushed the limits of the U.S. laws and even of Quinn's own tastes, but he fought resolutely for their rights to publish their ground-breaking literature. His legacy continues to inspire those who fight against censorship.
