What is SOLiD?

SOLiD stands for Student Organization Leadership and Development. The Office of Student Engagement and Student Senate facilitates training sessions for student organization leadership that occurs in the fall semester before the academic year begins. This training provides tips and tools on how to lead your organization successfully throughout the academic year. This training is mandatory for Student Senate recognized organizations.

The SOLiD agenda updates student organizations on process and procedure changes in the Office of Student Engagement that impacts student organization business, identifies resources that organizations need to know to be successful, outlines the annual re-recognition process and timeline, and highlights important policies and procedures.

Friday, August 13

  • 12:00PM - 1:00PM: Check-In and Move-In @ Campus Center
  • 3:00PM - 6:00PM: SOLiD Conference
  • 6:00PM: Dinner

Saturday, August 14

  • 9:00AM - 12:00PM: Movers (2 hour shifts) @ Residence Halls
  • 8:15PM - 9:15PM: Student Org Showcase @ Rickly Chapel

Frequently Asked Questions about SOLiD

"What is the cost?"
There is no cost for participation. The event is sponsored by Office of Student Engagement and Student Senate!

"When is SOLiD?"
SOLiD takes place during Welcome Week before the Fall semester. All SOLiD participants will move back to campus and go through Check-In on the Tuesday before First Year Move-In.

"Who can participate?"
SOLiD is designed specifically for organization leaders, including Greek groups, registered student organizations, honorary groups, captains of athletic teams, and any other student leader on campus!

For Fall 2021, SOLiD will be restricted to Heidelberg students who are fully vaccinated.

If your group would like to receive Student Senate funding, you are required to send at least 2 but no more than 3 officers to participate in all parts of SOLiD.

"What will the program look like?"
Workshops, presentations by student leaders, small group discussions, individual organization planning time, team building activities, and more!

"How do I sign up?"
All organization presidents will receive an email by June 1st, inviting their organizations to participate. Follow the directions in the email to register.

"How can I promote my group to new students?"
There are two great opportunities to let new students know about your group: the Org Showcase and the Involvement Fair.

The Org Showcase is a 30-second, live "commercial" of your group performed for all new students. Each group will take turns performing their commercial to all new students on stage in Rickly Chapel. This is a fun, interactive way for students to learn about the many awesome groups, clubs, organizations, and causes here at the 'Berg!

The Involvement Fair is an easy way to explore many of the exciting things to do and get involved with on campus. Members of more than 70 HU student organizations, groups, clubs, and causes will be on the Front Lawn of Campus Center to share a little bit about what they do during Labor Stay Weekend. This is the best opportunity for new students to chat and start determining some of the ways to get involved with outside of classes.

"How do I participate in the Org Showcase?"
All groups that attend SOLiD will automatically have a place in the Org Showcase. Any additional departmental groups can register with the Office of Student Engagement by emailing engagement@heidelberg.edu.

"How does my group participate in the Involvement Fair?"
Groups sign up for a table at the Involvement Fair by completing the spreadsheet emailed to org presidents, or by emailing engagement@heidelberg.edu.
